Livestream my Monday panel at the AJC Global Forum, a new podcast, Shavuot and the end of Arthritis Awareness Month
Greetings from Washington DC
Summer is almost here... Can you feel it? Maybe it’s because I’m currently in sticky DC where summer seems to have arrived ages ago... but the days are getting longer and longer. I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for iced coffee and patios!
Why am I in DC, you ask? Well... I was invited to be on a panel at the AJC Global Forum on Monday! I’m really excited to share my story and my work at such an important event. You can find out all the details below, and if you’re around on Monday around lunch, you can even tune into the live stream!
To all of you who visited my website, thanks! I have been continuing to tweak it, and made one big change: I added an event calendar! It’s a nice place to check to see if I have any speaking gigs coming up since I don’t plan to send updates here *too* often.
What else is new? Well... Arthritis Awareness Month has ended, and I finished my walking for #WalkYourASOff. Despite terrible weather, I managed 166,733 steps! You can check it out, as well as the steps of the rest of my team, on my page.
And... Shavuot is almost here! This year, I had the honour of co-chairing the Tikkun Leil Shavuot (All night learning festival) at the Miles Nadal JCC in Toronto. I’m really proud of what we will be presenting. If you’re in Toronto, I hope to see you there! See below for info on my session. You can see the whole program here.
Thanks again for supporting me and my work! I really appreciate it.
The "I" Word: Intersectionality and the Jewish Community
Livestream! Register today!
Monday, June 3, at 11:45 AM EDT
Originally meant as an inclusive tool to protect marginalized communities, the term “intersectionality” has become a hot button topic in Jewish communal spaces. From the Women’s March to college campuses, debates around anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism continue to flare in intersectional forums. As diverse communities join together to fight for a range of social justice causes, is there room for the Jewish community?
A panel conversation with:
Rabbi Angela Buchdahl, Senior Rabbi of Central Synagogue in New York City
Tema Smith, Director of Community Engagement, Holy Blossom Temple
Rabbi Gil Steinlauf, Founder and Director of the Hineni Fellowship for LGBTQ Jewish Leadership
Moderated by: Melanie Maron Pell, Assistant Executive Director and Managing Director, Regional Offices, AJC
JoCs from A to Z: A Guide to Being Inclusive and Building Community
Sunday, June 9, at 2:30 AM EDT (yes, AM... it's not a typo!)
A session about Jews of Colour for the Downtown Tikkun Leil Shavuot at the MNjcc. Find out more here.
Dear Adam Silver
A podcast about art & sports with Abigail Smithson
Dear Adam Silver is an artist's take on sports — Abigail believe both art and sports have the power to translate and help us reconsider the largest social issues we face. On each episode, she discovers and discusses the many connections between the two alongside artists, athletes, journalists, commentators, critics and fans.
Abigail invited me to discuss my article for the Forward, “Are Jews White? American History says it’s complicated”
